The Ferrari Portofino is one of the Italian manufacturer’s most modern and popular models, but how fast can it go from zero to sixty miles per hour?
When it first launched, the Ferrari Portofino could travel from 0 – 60mph in just 3.1 seconds. In 2021, the Ferrari Portofino M (Modificata) was a little slower, with a 0 – 60mph speed of 3.3 seconds.

Read on to learn more about the Ferrari Portofino, why it’s so popular, and how powerful a car it really is.
Introducing: The Portofino
From 2008 to 2017, Ferrari manufactured the Ferrari California, otherwise known as the Type F149. This was an attractive and powerful hard-top convertible, built around a twin-turbo V8 engine that produced 450 horsepower.
It was a popular addition to the Ferrari range, and it both performed highly and received positive reviews overall. It was stylish, impressive, and commanded a severe road presence, as you might have expected from a Ferrari.
Although the Ferrari California underwent a major facelift in 2014, it would be discontinued just three years later, in 2017. In its place, Ferrari introduced the Portofino, another hard-top convertible powered by a twin-turbo V8 engine.
In many ways, the Ferrari Portofino was an identical car to the Ferrari California. At the basest level, they even looked the same, with both taking on a remarkably similar shape, style, and aesthetic, right down to the fine touches applied to the body.
When critics were breaking down the similarities between both cars, they were mostly hard-pressed to find any substantial differences. For example, the Portofino produces just forty more horsepower and weighs eighty kilograms less.
It also came with an upgraded infotainment system, a more technically advanced key, and a roof that could retract while moving. And let’s not forget – the Portofino’s air conditioning system was also made quieter and more powerful when compared to the California.
Pushing Out A Little More Power
The Ferrari California, in its prime, boasted a 0 – 60mph time of just 3.3 seconds. However, the Ferrari Portofino went slightly above and beyond, pulling a 3.1 second time and gaining the edge over its predecessor.
Bizarrely, when the Ferrari Portofino M (Modificata) was released three years later, it had slowed down – but only marginally. In 2021, the newest variant of the Portofino M clocked a 0 – 60mph time of 3.3 seconds, pairing it up with the Ferrari California.
When you’re driving a supercar like a Ferrari, every second counts, and that 0.2 might not seem like much, but it can be, for some enthusiasts. There are likely some vehicular experts that would scoff at the reduction in overall acceleration and vow to never drive the car.
However, neither car comes close to touching one of the fastest cars ever developed – the Koenigsegg Gemera. This half a million-dollar car produces 1,700bhp and can scream from 0 – 60mph in just 1.9 seconds.
It’s difficult to imagine anything officially beating that figure.
Promoting The Range
Ferrari boasts a remarkable range of supercars, and the Portofino is just one of several examples. However, it is the only convertible model that the Italian manufacturer offers, so it has that going for it, of course.
At the top of the Ferrari pile is the Ferrari 812 Superfast – which, as you might imagine, is the fastest Ferrari on offer. In fact, according to the manufacturers themselves, it’s the fastest and most powerful Ferrari ever.
Although it might not look as dramatic or impressive as a Lamborghini, for example, the 812 Superfast is a beast of modern engineering. It’s built around a 6-5l V12 engine that produces some eight hundred horsepower.
It can zip from 0 – 60mph in 2.9 seconds, beating out the Portofino and California, and it has a top speed of 211mph. It’s a remarkable car that comes with a starting price tag of around $335,000 – but that figure is conservative when you consider the customization options.
By contrast, the Ferrari Portofino M (Modificata) starts at around $200,000, which is a huge drop in price, for a massive drop in power. If you’re not interested in driving one of the fastest and most powerful cars in the world today, then you can stick with the Portofino.
Ferrari tends to offer extensive customization options on its vehicles, and the Portofino is no exception. When you purchase a Ferrari Portofino brand new, you can spend time adjusting the trim colors and styles, types of leather for the seats, mood lighting, infotainment, and more.
If you’re spending $200,000, make the purchase yours.
