They’re one of the most luxurious ways to explore the open ocean, but how much does it cost to rent a yacht for a day?
Yacht rental is a massively diverse topic, with so many different criteria and factors affecting the cost. It can start from as low as a few hundred dollars for day rental, all the way up to several thousand – or tens of thousands of dollars. It all depends on where, when, and which yacht you’re hiring.
Read on to learn more about yachts and how they can be hired.
Financial Frivolity
There are precious few possessions on this earth more lavish or frivolous than a private yacht. They’re the pinnacle of materialism for the super-rich, often becoming exclusive floating mansions.
Although they’ve been a staple of the wealthy for decades, they are technically available for anybody to enjoy. If you’d like to avoid the multi-million dollar price tag attached to yacht ownership, you can of course rent one.
However, the stock of rental yachts available is unbelievably diverse. You’ll have a hard time locking in a definite price until you’ve hammered out all the finer details.
For example, you can rent a skippered sailing yacht in Greece, complete with eight guests and four cabins. This will likely cost you anything from three hundred dollars a day, up to a few thousand.
It depends on the location in-country from where you set sail, the amenities you have on-board, and the type of vessel you’re on. You can rent yachts that are brand new, or decades-old – it really is an extremely varied mix out there.
On the other end of the spectrum, let’s say you wanted to rent a luxurious motor yacht for a day in the Caribbean.
You can rent a crewed motor yacht capable of carrying eight guests, with four cabins for around nine thousand dollars a day.
However, clickandboat.com offers a brilliant explanation of the cost of boat hire in the Caribbean. They state that a basic motorboat can be rented for around three hundred dollars a day.
They then estimate that a sailboat would cost anywhere from four hundred to three thousand dollars a day to rent. Ultimately, a luxury yacht remains the most expensive vessel that can be chartered or rented.
At the furthest end of the spectrum, they estimate that it would cost up to twenty-four thousand dollars per day for rental.
Options of the Ocean
There are other ways to get aboard the super-luxurious yachts of the world. One such example is by taking part in the television show, Below Deck.
This reality show premiered in 2013, following the daily operations and adventures of the crew aboard lavish superyachts. They work aboard yachts over one hundred feet in length and tend to every need of the guests onboard.
While the guests aboard these yachts allegedly enjoyed discounted rental options, the vessels were still massively luxurious. They were all worth tens of millions of dollars and were quite simply floating five-star hotels.
In fact, worldwideboat.com broke down the cost of hiring the superyachts featured on Below Deck. At the top end of the spectrum was an almost two-hundred-foot behemoth, the Talisman Maiton.
This yacht, hired in the Mediterranean, would cost almost three-hundred thousand dollars a week to rent.
While you almost certainly couldn’t rent this vessel for just one day, it would likely average out to around forty-thousand dollars a day.
In another article, worldwideboat.com also breaks down the offerings that sometimes come with the renting of a yacht. Their expansive list includes diving equipment, food, water sporting equipment, and electric appliances.
However, when you’re preparing to rent these yachts, you also have to take into consideration the operational costs. It isn’t just the amenities that you bolt-on, of course.
You’ll need to accommodate for the fuel, docking fees and taxes, gratuity, and any electrical or maintenance costs. It’s still nowhere near the cost of owning a yacht, but the cost can quickly climb if you’re not careful.
If you’re traveling to tourist hotspots like the Caribbean, the Meditteranean, or states like Florida, yacht hire will be simple. While you’ll still need the upfront capital, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to ocean-faring vessels.
Of course, if you’re traveling with several guests, you can split the cost and try and enjoy a day in the lap of luxury.
