Bugattis are some of the most powerful and expensive cars in the world, but do they have back seats?
These days, every luxurious and super-powered Bugatti has a rear-loaded engine. This means they do not come with rear seats, period. However, they used to offer vehicles with sumptuous back seat spaces, when they built large and expensive cruisers.
Read on to learn more about Bugatti and the builds of their luxurious supercars.
The Long Road
When it comes to the glory of expensive supercars, none have had a journey like Bugatti. The brand has been passed from pillar to post and had serious peaks and troughs.
Bugatti was originally founded over a century ago by Ettore Bugatti, in 1909. While their claim to fame was substantial, the company lost steam all too quickly in the mid-century.
The Bugatti name had seen victory both on the track and on the road. They’d had humble beginnings but grew to become kings of the Italian and European motor vehicle market.
However, the untimely death of Ettore Bugatti in 1947 marked the downfall of the company. His son and only heir had died almost a decade before, leaving nobody to inherit the firm.
The remaining staff fought valiantly, releasing one final model. Unfortunately, they floundered, and the organization was sold off in the early sixties.
There was a brief revival in the eighties, but it wasn’t expansive. Ultimately, the brand was purchased by Volkswagen in 1998, relocated to France, and production reopened.
Although, the vehicles produced by Bugatti today are dramatically exclusive, expensive, and high-powered. You’ll almost never see one out on the road.
The Epitome
When they were originally trading, Bugatti was trying to carve out a name for themselves in the luxury and racing markets.
They produced agile and minuscule racing vehicles but also large and sumptuous luxury cruisers. In the 1920s, Ettore Bugatti had the vision to create the most expensive and luxurious car in the world.
His dream was released in 1926 with the introduction of the Type 41 Royale. This was an incredibly enormous vehicle, powered by a dangerously huge engine.
It boasted massive interior space for the passengers, both front seats and back. The super-powered luxury-on-wheels was driven by a 12.7-liter engine.
Ettore succeeded in his goal – the Type 41 Royale was the most expensive car in history. It’s also one of the most exclusive, as only six were built.
In 1930, a brand new Type 41 Royale would have cost around $43,000. In 2020, that’s almost $700,000.
They’re all accounted for today, present in museums and collections throughout Europe.
Bugatti circulated teasers of a potential revisit to the Royale model in 2009, but this didn’t materialize. The Veyron Royale would have been powered by the same enormous engine and feature four seats.
Modern Day Motoring
The Bugatti of today is dramatically different from those in the past. Today, Bugatti is exclusively made up of extremely sleek, incredibly fast two-seater supercars.
What they lack in the back seat category, they make up for in the motoring ability.
They’re some of the fastest cars in the world, capable of reaching dizzying speeds. Their production Bugatti Chiron model could top out at over two-hundred and sixty miles per hour.
It hit sixty in just two seconds, a mind-blowing figure.
However, a specially-tuned Bugatti Chiron was able to reach three hundred miles per hour on a closed track. It makes sense though, as the Chiron is a three-million-dollar engineering marvel.
They’re unbelievably lavish, with every detail taken into consideration. The company produces very few cars, which is understandable, given the cost.
In 2019, they sold a one-of-a-kind, the Bugatti La Voiture Noire, which simply translates into “The Black Car”. This stunning example came with a nineteen-million-dollar pricetag.
It was described as the first ‘hypercar’, boasting an eye-watering 1500 brake horsepower. And no, it didn’t have a back seat.
Although, there was technically one Bugatti built recently that featured a backseat. It wasn’t an official Bugatti, but a stunning replica.
Valued at $120,000, this replica Bugatti Veyron was constructed with a front-loaded engine and rear seats. It was built by an engineer in Florida, who constructed it around a V6 petrol engine.
So, if you’re looking for a Bugatti with a back seat, you’ll need to just build your own.
