The Audi R8 is the German manufacturer’s most powerful offering, claiming a spot in the industry as a 200mph supercar, but how fast can it go from zero to sixty?
The Audi R8 base model, which is the most common model, can zip from 0 – 60 miles-per-hour in just 3.4 seconds. The Performance model, at the top of the chain, hits the same speed in just 3.1 seconds. At the bottom of the spectrum is the R8 RWD, which goes from 0 – 60 in 3.7 seconds.

Read on to learn more about the Audi R8, its variants, and the capabilities of the German supercar.
The Start Of A Very Strong Chain
Audi is one of the oldest names in the car industry and one of many top-class German manufacturers that produce high-quality cars. It was first incorporated way back in 1909, and although it had some issues throughout the twentieth century, it still stands strong today.
It all started with the August Horch Automobilwerke GmbH, founded by, of course, August Horch. However, that name would be short-lived, as Horch was sued for copyright infringement within just a few quick months.
Following a swift meeting with his business partners, the name Audi was born, with the son of one of these partners pulling the name out of thin air. As the story goes, Franz Fikentscher’s son was studying Latin, and he had recalled the word from what he had learned thus far.
And so, Audi Automobilwerke GmbH Zwickau was born, and history was about to be made.
Following the Second World War, Audi started to manufacture great quality cars in earnest, with the company changing hands on numerous occasions. There was a considerable merger that took place at the end of the 1960s which broadened the company substantially.
Today, Audi is known as one of the finest German manufacturers, with its cars being widely known for their quality, luxury, and power. It was really in the twenty-first century that Audi became a seriously high-class contender, with the introduction of innovative cars that disrupted the industry.
The Audi range is relatively expensive and high-quality from the ground up, from the minuscule A1 to the industry-topping R8. There’s a diverse range of vehicles, from SUVs to tourers, and from hatchbacks to saloons.
Ultimately, every Audi vehicle created bears a similar aesthetic; a mean, angular, and sharp facade that commands a serious road presence. However, the most impressive vehicle put on the road by Audi is undoubtedly the remarkable Audi R8.
At The Top Of That Chain
The Audi R8 was first introduced to the world in 2003 when it was revealed at the International Geneva Motor Show. It was an instant hit, being modeled as a relatively affordable supercar that could be used as an everyday vehicle.
In 2006, the first production Audi R8 was released, and it quickly became known as a considerable success. Within just a few years, Audi had expanded the R8 range, releasing subsequent variants that improved on the power, performance, and luxury of the base R8.
Today, every Audi R8 (except for the R8 e-Tron) is produced with a neck-breaking V10 engine that produces some six hundred horsepower. At the top of the R8 range is the Audi R8 Performance Spyder Quattro, an all-wheel-drive monster that costs more than $210,000.
If you’re looking for a fast-mover, look no further than the Audi R8, which at the base level can travel from 0 – 60 in just 3.4 seconds. The fastest variants are the Performance models, which can leap from 0 – 60 miles-per-hour in 3.1 seconds.
At the bottom of the scale sits the Audi R8 RWD, a lighter and more affordable variant that lacks the all-wheel-drive power of the regular Audi R8. This model, with less driving power overall, jumps from 0 – 60 miles-per-hour in 3.7 seconds.
However, all of those models beat the closest competing vehicles in acceleration – and in many cases, in top speed. At its fastest, the Audi R8 can hit around 205 miles-per-hour, an incredibly high top speed for what is essentially an everyday supercar.
Although, it isn’t all just about the exorbitant power levels, as the Audi R8 is also a luxurious car on the inside. It comes with a fantastic specification as standard, and the materials used in the creation of the interior are seriously high-quality.
If you want a supercar for less than $200,000, the Audi R8 is an extremely attractive option.
