Taking The Fashion World By Storm
When you compare the facts and figures between Versace and Gucci, the latter seems to win out in almost every category. Gucci is considerably older as a company, has a more popular footing in the fashion world, and has a substantially higher yearly revenue.
It beats Versace in many aspects: Gucci has more employees, a bigger range, and a richer history. When it comes to overall value, Gucci is more expensive, with its price-per-product beating out Versace on an average scale.
In 1921, Guccio Gucci founded the Italian fashion house in Florence, originally focusing on leather goods such as bags and luggage. By contrast, Gianni Versace founded his company in 1972, focusing almost immediately on fashion collections.
Gucci’s experience overshadows that of Versace by almost sixty years, a considerable gulf when it comes to business. Today, Gucci is commonly rated as one of the most popular and valuable fashion labels, boasting a position in one of the world’s most powerful fashion conglomerates.
It sits underneath Kering, a French conglomerate focusing heavily on fashion and luxury products. It’s a similar arrangement to LVMH, another French multinational corporation that owns, among other companies, Louis Vuitton.
Gucci is joined in Kering’s roster by brands such as Yves Saint Laurent, Balenciaga, and Bottega Veneta. However, out of the dozen-or-so brands available, Gucci is undoubtedly the most popular and wealthiest label.
Versace is also a subsidiary of a conglomerate, having been acquired by Michael Kors Holdings (now Capri Holdings) in 2018 for some two billion dollars. Although, Capri Holdings isn’t anywhere near as valuable as Kering, with just Versace, Michael Kors, and Jimmy Choo sitting in its roster.

Given that Gucci has a much more popular position in the fashion industry, it makes sense that it is also more valuable overall. We ran some comparisons on popular products listed on both the Gucci and Versace websites in an attempt to determine which is more expensive.
We found out that Gucci is more expensive on a price-per-product scale than Versace is, across a range of departments. For example, we checked men’s jackets and found that Gucci was selling these products for as much as twelve thousand dollars.
When we examined Versace’s range of men’s jackets, we found that the most expensive product on offer was just over four thousand dollars. Also, it was on sale – something that Gucci almost never does with its products.
Moving on, we examined an extremely popular department when it comes to high fashion: women’s tote bags. On Gucci’s website, the average bag was valued at around three thousand dollars, a considerable cost for any product.
However, Versace doesn’t even crack the two thousand dollar mark on the average cost of its tote bags. Finally, we took a look at women’s fashionable jewelry, and the trend that we’d already spotted continued in earnest.
With Gucci, the most expensive product on its website came in at around two thousand dollars. When we examined Versace’s offerings, we found that the most expensive piece was just short of eighteen hundred dollars.
Although, there were many more cheaper products on Versace’s website overall, with Gucci once again claiming the top spot in overall value. It comes as no surprise that Gucci’s annual revenue is more than ten times higher than Versace’s.
Ultimately, both brands have their respective followings and focus, even if Versace does fall some way short when compared to Gucci. While the latter has a stronger presence in the fashion industry, the former has enjoyed some iconic moments throughout history.
Gianni Versace was lucky enough to design dresses and suits for several celebrity figures very early on in his career, something that took Gucci decades to accomplish. Amongst many others, Versace designed apparel for Elizabeth Hurley, Elton John, Michael Jackson, and Princess Diana.
It might be considerably smaller than Gucci, but Versace definitely has a substantial fashion legacy that helps it retain a lofty position in the industry.
