The R8 is one of Audi’s most innovative and powerful cars, but does it have back seats?
Since it was first released in 2006, the Audi R8 has never had back seats, owing to the engine being mounted in the rear. It’s strictly a two-seater vehicle and all that sits behind the front two seats is a small cargo shelf.
Read on to learn more about the Audi R8, its innovative nature, and how it’s built.
The Height Of Audi
The Audi R8 is an exclusive car among exclusive cars. While Audi has been innovating since the start of the twentieth century, they really hit the nail on the head with the Audi R8.
Audi’s line of cars is often considered to be luxury vehicles, particularly the higher end of the roaster. However, the Audi R8 is almost in a league of its own, boasting unbeatable performance and style.
In 1983, Audi expanded and founded a subsidiary company called quattro GmbH, which would subsequently become known as Audi Sport GmbH. It’s a division of the German manufacturer that serves to design, produce, and distribute Audi’s high-performance vehicles.
While this doesn’t just include the Audi R8, it is the pinnacle of their creations. Audi Sport also builds the RS and S-Line models, which are massively improved variants of standard Audi cars.
They tend to come equipped with high-powered engines, improved trim and body kits, and performance parts. As you might expect, they’re also dramatically more expensive than their stock-standard counterparts.
For example, you can purchase a brand new Audi A7 ‘Sportback’ for around sixty-four thousand dollars. However, if you wanted to purchase the RS 7 Sportback, you’ll be paying anything up to one-hundred and fifty thousand dollars.
The Audi R8 doesn’t really have a ‘next level’, given that it’s already at the top of its game. Although, it does come in two variants – the Coupe or the Spyder.
Both models boast a capable and punchy V10 engine, but the Spyder is built as a convertible. That’s really the main difference though, as both cars offer the same performance range, with the highest being the V10 Performance Carbon Black.
If you were looking to purchase a brand new R8 Spyder in the Performance Carbon trim, you’d be paying as much as two-hundred and twenty thousand dollars. There hasn’t ever been a more expensive production Audi, and it remains a popular fan favorite.
Inside And Out
The Audi R8 is built in Audi Sport’s exclusive production facility, located just outside of Stuttgart, Germany. It’s said that the engineers there have decades of experience which is poured into the development of their vehicles.
When you look at the Audi R8, that definitely shines through. At first glance, you’re looking at a sleek, dominating, and intense-looking car, boasting sharp lines and an impressive road presence.
It’s not just the look either, as the sound of the R8’s V10 engine can be heard from a few blocks away with ease. The massively powerful engine can produce around six hundred horsepower without breaking a sweat.
And the style and exuberance continue throughout the interior of the car. The engine is mounted at the rear, meaning the R8 has no back seats, but there’s still plenty of space to explore in the cabin.
Up front, there are sumptuous fixings and fittings, with carbon fiber and soft-touch surfaces being the order of the day. There’s a 12.3” touch screen surrounded by sophisticated technology.
As standard, the Audi R8 boasts features like a parking system, cruise control, Apple CarPlay, dual-zone climate control, and surround sound speakers. It’s a generous offering that only assists in making the car way more practical than a Ferrari or a Lamborghini.
The Competing Factor
While the Audi R8 might be an impressive vehicle, it isn’t without its competition. It is by no means lonely at the top, and the German manufacturer has many cars nipping at its heels.
The most immediate competitors are the likes of the Chevrolet Corvette, Mercedes-Benz AMG GT, Nissan GT-R, and Porsche 911. They’re all immense vehicles in their own right, stylish and dramatically powerful.
One of the only factors that Audi doesn’t have working in its favor is cost – it’s considerably more expensive than any other car we’ve listed above. You can pick up a Corvette for fifty-eight thousand dollars, or even the Porsche 911 for ninety-seven thousand dollars.
In fact, you could buy three Corvettes for the price of one Audi R8.
