Yachts are one of the most lavish possessions often owned by the super-rich, but do they come equipped with bedrooms?
All yachts will feature at least one bedroom, along with bathrooms, a lounge, and kitchen areas. In some cases, the larger yachts may boast multiple bedrooms, all luxuriously furnished. In shipping and boating terms, the bedrooms are referred to as cabins or staterooms.
Read on to learn more about the amazing and sumptuous bedrooms that are found in the world’s yachts.
Sleeping on the Sea
When it comes to the lavish lifestyle of the super-rich, there are few things as extravagant as a private yacht. These ocean-bound mansions can cost more than a house and are often twice as luxurious and technical.
The biggest and most expansive yachts are known as superyachts or megayachts. These enormous constructions boast accommodation for up to twelve guests – and a crew.
Of course, that means they have to fully accommodate them. The yachts of this size often come equipped with four to six staterooms or cabins.
These will typically be fully equipped, with electronics and technology galore. There are no ‘budget’ yachts of this size; they’re all worth tens of millions of dollars, and you get your money’s worth.
In the ideal world of the super-rich, these yachts would be even bigger if they could. However, there are regulations in place that limit the number of guests aboard a yacht.
If these vessels carry more than twelve passengers, it’s legally classed as a passenger ship. This is true regardless of the size of the yacht.
The planning that goes into the design of a yacht’s interior is monumental. They’ll often be bespoke, and the shipbuilders will bring on interior designers and architects to complete the job.
Ultimately, these interiors become more luxurious than five-star hotels. They’re unique, breathtaking, and often incredibly clean, owing to the staff and crew on board.
An article in LuxDeco explored this idea, explaining at length how designers create the interior based on a number of factors. They have to work with awkwardly-shaped rooms, maximize light and storage, and deal with lower ceilings that usual.
Examples of Expense
Boat International posted an article exploring the most luxurious master cabins in the world. These cabins were all built aboard massive superyachts, and simply exuded wealth.
In every example in the list, we see images of grandeur and opulence, with rich woods and rare metals abound. They often boast panoramic viewing over the ocean, and gadgets such as mood lighting, air conditioning, and enormous televisions.
Unfortunately, it would be difficult for the average individual to experience these surroundings. It costs hundreds of thousands of dollars to charter these yachts even for a few days.
They come fully staffed, with a captain and crew at your beck and call. You then also need to consider the cost of port taxes, fuel, and provisions.
Burgess Yachts are one such charter company, and they offer a superyacht capable of housing twelve guests. The yacht, the Slipstream, has six lavish cabins spread out over three expansive decks.
These yachts really are the ultimate playground, and they can be equipped with a range of frivolous extras. You often have options to include cinemas, waterslides, karaoke, and smoke machines, or fully-equipped gyms.
The most extreme example is a three-level master suite, aboard the British yacht, the Sunseeker 95. It comes with a private dressing room on one floor, a bathroom on another, and the bedroom on the third.
Every cabin on the Sunseeker 95 boasts a private bathroom, and it can sleep eight guests in total. There’s also a bar, a hot tub, dining areas, and a lounge.
If you’re interested in picking up a Sunseeker 95, you’ll need to part ways with ten million dollars.
While you can enjoy rented yachts for a few thousand dollars a week, these will traditionally not be to the spec of a Sunseeker. They’ll often be sail yachts, as opposed to powerboats.
It’s best to split the cost of a truly luxurious experience among the guests onboard the yacht. If twelve people are taking a trip, it becomes much less expensive than one person floating the bill.
Of course, if you’d like to look at ownership, that’s an entirely different ballgame. You can expect to pay well over a million dollars even for the most basic powerboat yacht.
